Weekends are for enjoying life's simple pleasures;walks in nature, time with loved ones, lingering around the dinner table, sharing stories.
How did I spend my weekend? Why, I spent it singing barbershop along with 70 other brides!
You can only see the very top of my head in this picture, but trust me, I'm there! I am lucky to belong to Harmony on the Sound, a Sweet Adelines chorus based in Trumbull, Connecticut. Our specialty is barbershop harmony, and we are known for our parodies. In the photo above we are singing our current contest competition package, "Nobody's Sweetheart/I'm Alone Because I Loved You", a parody about a bride who is jilted at the altar by her fiancé after he announces he is gay. The idea for our package came from In and Out, a 1997 comedy starring Kevin Kline and Joan Cusack. We won the Sweet Adelines' Region One competition in 2014 with this package and have been busy preparing for this year's International Competition, which takes place this October in Las Vegas.
70+ brides in Las Vegas...sounds like a bad Elvis Presley movie, doesn't it?
This weekend we hostessed the 2015 Region 1 Competition in Springfield, Massachusetts. It was a busy weekend but also a lot of fun. If you love to sing I encourage you to look for a Sweet Adelines group in your area; being part of Harmony on the Sound has been such a joy for me!
Here is a video of our complete package, filmed during last year's regional competition:
After a enjoying a delicious brunch Sunday morning with several of my dear friends from the chorus, I returned home to find that my caring, hard-working husband had completely mulched our front gardens and washed all of the windows. He is a great guy, isn't he? It was such a treat to turn into the driveway to see azaleas in bloom and the trees finally showing buds! I really am one lucky lady. We spent the rest of the day relaxing together, sitting in the sun and catching up on our days, and doing the crossword puzzle.
It was a lovely end to the weekend.
How did you spend your weekend? I'd love it if you told me about it in the comments!
