"Seek not that the things which happen should happen as you wish; but wish the things which happen to be as they are, and you will have a tranquil flow of life." ~ Epictetus, AD 55-c.135
I have all I ever wished for: family, friends, home, good health. I do not desire more than that. But I do have a prayer, which is that my daughters be happy and content as they travel the roads they have chosen. May they know empowerment and learn how to adapt to the ebb and flow of life. May they know recognize joy in the daily ordinaries that life brings and is often taken for granted: the rising and setting of the sun, the blueness of the sky, the embrace of a friend. The small moments that go unnoticed.
As for me, I give thanks for answered prayers and lessons learned, for the deep abiding sense of gratitude I possess. I do not take this life for granted. In the early morning light, as I step outside for the paper, I look up to the sky and give thanks.
